What are veneers?

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are shaped and bonded to your teeth to fix small cracks, chips, stains, and other cosmetic flaws. They are tooth-colored and can be molded to change the appearance of misshapen teeth. They’re comprised of high-quality porcelain, which provides longevity and a natural-looking smile. Veneers are an ideal treatment option for anyone uncomfortable with their smile.

Veneers are custom-made for your mouth. They are durable and resistant to stains. Veneers are designed to cover the front surface of teeth and therefore will be made to blend in with the rest of your teeth so you can enjoy a brighter smile. Your veneers will be made in a lab by a cosmetic specialist. They take approximately 4 weeks to be made, so Dr. Wynn will fit you with temporary restorations while you wait.

Should I get porcelain veneers?

If you are feeling uncomfortable with your smile, or if your teeth are in danger due to cracks or chips, Dr. Wynn may recommend porcelain veneers. This treatment is especially effective for those with:

  • Severe stains
  • Spaces between teeth
  • Excessive wear
  • Chipped teeth
  • Slightly-cracked teeth
  • Crooked teeth

Porcelain veneers provide a more durable, aesthetically pleasing fix for many of these problems. They are strong and feel just like natural teeth. However, they take longer to place than treatments such as resin bonds. They also require a small sliver of enamel to be removed before being cemented to the tooth.

Although veneers are naturally stain-resistant, Dr. Wynn may recommend avoiding dark-colored drinks and foods such as coffee, red wine, and tea. Avoiding these foods will help maintain your beautiful new smile.
