Teeth Whitening
Keeping your teeth pearly white can seem hopeless at times. Coffee, tea, wine, tobacco, and bad dental hygiene are just a few culprits behind yellowing, graying, stained teeth. Unfortunately, over-the-counter whitening toothpaste and strips can only do so much to help and can, unfortunately, harm your teeth if misused.
Being confident and comfortable in your smile can make a world of difference in your everyday life. At Mary Ellen Wynn, DDS, we understand the importance of having a bright, radiant smile. That is why we are happy to offer Opalescence GO® in-office and take-home whitening treatments. Together we can help you get a brighter smile you can be confident in!
Can I do teeth whitening?
If you are uncomfortable with stained or discolored teeth, Dr. Wynn may recommend a professional whitening treatment. Tooth stains can be caused by a variety of things including:
- Poor hygiene
- Aging
- Coffee, tea, wine, soda, and other richly-colored foods and drinks
- Smoking and general tobacco use
- Certain illnesses and medications
- Fluorosis
If your teeth have been discolored by an extremely dark or gray stain, Dr. Wynn may recommend other cosmetic treatments.
What does whitening treatment include?
At Mary Ellen Wynn, DDS we are proud to offer Opalescence GO® whitening options. Patients can either choose an in-office treatment or take-home treatment.
In-office treatments can be completed in a single visit and typically result in a whiter smile. The whitening solution only affects your tooth’s enamel — meaning it will not alter the color of any existing caps or crowns. The treatment usually takes one hour.
Take-home treatments usually take two visits to prepare. During your first visit, an impression will be taken of your teeth to create a custom plastic tray. Any necessary adjustments will be made during your second visit to ensure the tray fits perfectly over your teeth. Dr. Wynn will provide you with your custom trays and your Opalescence GO® whitening solution at the end of your visit.
In the convenience of your home, you will put the Opalescence GO® whitening solution into the trays and wear them every day for several weeks. Dr. Wynn will recommend how long to leave the trays in each day and how many weeks to use your whitening solution depending on the severity of the stains.
How long does teeth whitening last?
The length of time that the whitening effects last will depend entirely on personal care and hygiene. The types of foods and beverages you consume may also negatively affect the longevity of your treatment. With proper care, results can last up to three years!

Patient Testimonials
Dr. Mary Ellen Wynn’s dental practice in the Western Hills area is by far the best dentist I have visited. My first appointment was 15+ years ago when she took me in for an urgent cracked tooth. Service was excellent and professional. My family continues to visit on a regular basis.

Dr. Wynn and her staff are exceptional in their friendliness, knowledge and help. They all make visiting the dentist a delightful experience. Dr. Wynn is the best dentist I’ve encountered in all my life and would recommend her services to anyone, especially those who are afraid of going to the dentist.
Peter D.
My mother and I have been patients of Dr. Wynn’s for approximately ten years. Both of us have been impressed by her professionalism and expertise, and not to mention her fantastic staff. We’ve gone to her for dental needs far beyond routine cleanings, and have been extremely satisfied.
Melissa B.
My childhood experience with a dentist was best described as grim. It led me to neglect my dental health. Teeth that been improperly drilled and filled had to be pulled. My husband found Dr. Wynn and shortly thereafter, so did I. The experience has changed my outlook on dentists.
